Exploring the fusion between paper, pigments and ink
Life
Ginkgo ~ the tree of life
This print is an hommage to the poem ‘Gingo’ by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. To me the ginkgo leaf with its two lobes joining at the bottom to become one is the perfect symbol for my own duality, the two sides of my personality and the two places I feel home. In autumn as the leaves of the ginkgo trees turn yellow and start to fall, I take a moment to pause and reflect, to acknowledge and fully embrace this duality.
The kozo washi paper I used for the print is as light as a ginkgo leaf and the vibrant yellow pigment in combination with the black of the bokujū ink makes this print an eye-catching piece of art.
Connected
Under the same moon
Moon-gazing is deeply rooted in japanese culture, both in literature and century old seasonal traditions. Each month as it gets full, I look at it and feel a deep connection to my beloved ones … we live under the same moon.
The contrast between the blue, yellow and red pigments add to the vibrant feel of this print. The white, smooth Mitsumata paper which I used significantly adds to this effect.
